THE TURNING POINT
In 2010 I hit a wall.
Two young kids. A business. A marriage. A mortgage. And complete, total overwhelm. I had tried everything — read every book, taken every course, added every strategy. I was doing all the right things and I was still drowning.
Until I realized I had nothing left to try.
So I stopped. I went on retreat. And as my mind finally grew quiet — for the first time in years — I found something underneath all the noise. A peace. A clarity. A sense of okayness I didn't know was there.

That discovery didn't just change my life. It changed the entire direction of my work.
THE DISCOVERY
What I found
What I discovered in that retreat wasn't a new technique or a better strategy. It was something that had always been there — beneath the stress, the striving, the exhaustion.
An innate wellbeing. A clarity that doesn't depend on circumstances. A peace that isn't created — it's uncovered.
For decades I had been helping people optimize their performance and manage their health from the outside in. Nutrition, exercise, stress management, positive psychology. All valuable. None of it touched what I found in that retreat.
Because what I found wasn't something you add. It's something you return to. That distinction became the foundation of everything I do.
THE WORK
25 years. One truth.
I've been in this work for 25 years — first as a sports therapist and performance coach, then as an integrative health practitioner, then as a transformative coach. Each chapter brought me closer to what I now understand as the central truth of this work:
Your experience of life — the stress, the anxiety, the sense of something missing — is being created from the inside out. Not by your circumstances, your history or your environment. By the hidden lenses through which you experience all of those things.

The work today
Today I work with men and women in midlife who have done everything right and still feel something fundamental is missing. Through transformative coaching and breathwork — two doors into the same room — we find what's been creating their experience and dissolve it at the source.
Not manage it. Not reframe it. Dissolve it.
I work virtually and in person from Park City, Utah. I live here with my wife and two sons. I've been on the path I point my clients toward — not just professionally but personally, repeatedly, in some of the most demanding inner landscapes a human being can enter.

Twenty-five years. A dozen modalities explored and released. Silent retreats. A dark retreat. Plant medicine integration. Here is the full arc of how I arrived at this work — and why I trust it completely.
THE BEGINNING
Sports therapy &
a nagging question
I grew up an athlete — tennis courts and soccer fields of Connecticut, NCAA soccer through college, then mountain bike racing before finding my way into sports therapy and performance training.
My approach was entirely outside-in — which was simply how the field worked. Fix the injury. Optimize the performance. Address the symptom. Work with the label.
But something kept nagging at me. The people who healed fastest weren't just responding to the physical interventions. Something else was happening. Something the clinical model didn't account for.
I began to see that working with the human being who had the challenge — rather than the challenge that had the human being — was where the real power lived.
THE INTEGRATIVE YEARS
Better tools.
The same ceiling.
Through the 2000s I moved into integrative health — working with the whole person across nutrition, corrective exercise, performance training and positive psychology. I was genuinely helping people. The work felt meaningful and real.
But I was still fundamentally outside-in. More tools. Better frameworks. Smarter integration of systems.
You can optimize every external variable in someone's life and still leave the thing that's actually creating their experience completely untouched. I knew this intellectually. I hadn't found it yet in my own body.
THE BREAKDOWN
Nothing left
to try.
Two young kids. A business I'd built from nothing. A marriage. A house. All of it pressing in simultaneously. I was completely overwhelmed — not in the casual way people use that word but in the way where the nervous system simply can't add one more thing.
I had tried everything. I was a health and wellness professional — I knew what the interventions were. And I had nothing left.
So I stopped. I went on retreat and made a decision I had never made before: to not work on myself. To simply rest in the space that opened when I stopped trying to fix everything.

THE DEEPENING
Ten days of
silence.
That retreat sent me deeper. In the years that followed I went on a ten-day silent meditation retreat — rising before dawn, meditating through the day, no eye contact, no conversation, no contact with the outside world. Complete silence for ten days.
What I found there confirmed what I'd found in the retreat. The busy mind — when given the space to quiet — reveals something underneath it. A crystal clarity. A sense of presence and aliveness that doesn't come from achieving anything.

The inside-out
nature of experience.
In 2013 I came across the inside-out understanding of human experience — how our experience of life is being created from within, not imposed from without. That the stress, the anxiety, the sense of limitation we carry aren't caused by circumstances. They're created by the thinking we innocently bring to those circumstances.
This wasn't a technique or a framework to apply. It was a recognition of something already true. It became the philosophical foundation of my coaching — not as a system to teach but as a reality to point toward.
THE BREATH
Two doors into
the same room.
In 2020 I discovered that breathwork could take people into the same space that retreat, silence and stillness had taken me — but through the body rather than the mind.
The breath, worked with intentionally, bypasses the thinking mind entirely. It accesses places in the body where tension, emotion and old pain have been stored — sometimes for decades — without the analytical mind being able to intervene.
What surfaces in a breathwork session can be met, understood and dissolved through the coaching work. The two modalities aren't separate offerings. They're two doors into the same room.
THE DARK RETREAT
Six and a half days
in complete darkness.
In 2024 I spent six and a half days in complete darkness. No light. Not a single photon. No sound beyond my breath and heart beat. No contact with another person. Complete solitude in absolute blackness.
I had done the silence. I had done the stillness. I wanted to know what happened when you removed sight itself — the sense we are most attached to, the one we use most to construct our sense of the world.
"The mind, deprived of its primary input, turned fully inward. And what it found — again, as it had in every retreat before — was the same thing. A peace. A clarity. A love and acceptance of self that doesn't depend on anything outside. Every path leads to the same room."

OUTSIDE THE WORKA life lived
from the inside out
Scott lives in Park City, Utah with his wife and two sons. He spends his mornings in the mountains — running trails, riding bikes, moving through terrain that demands full presence.
His athletic life isn't separate from his inner work. It's an expression of the same thing — a body trusted, a mind quiet, a life lived from the inside out.
His adventures have taken him to the summit of Mt. Rainier, several routes up Mt. Shasta, months of trekking in Nepal, Patagonia, Chile and Peru, and a solo bike tour across the United States.
